The Rossberg mountain range
The Rossberg mountain range
Situated at the very tip of the Ballon d'Alsace mountain range and the Vosges massif, the stubble fields offer magnificent views over the Thur and Doller valleys.
The word "Rossberg" refers to the wild horses that lived there until the 16th century, "Ross" meaning horse in German. Piles of stones line the path and bear witness to the presence of several farms on this stubble.
With the arrival of skiers on the slopes of the Rossberg in 1906, chalets and a ski lift were built. The thatch is a vast grazing area where you can meet cows, sheep and horses...
At the centre of the Massif are the Vogelsteine (1165m), rocky promontories of volcanic origin, a favourite spot for fragile rock flora.
